Spring in full blossom, meet the Amish, tasty meals, and “groan: don’t tell me it’s 6:15am”
Things are heating up: Spring is blossoming all around, which means it’s great weather to get out and walk. Accordingly, we started our week making the rounds of our neighborhood as we took in the amazing sights and smells.
Turns out the flowers are blooming on Capitol Hill. Check out our picture of the beautiful girl sitting amidst all the beautiful flowers. 
Tuesday with the crew: KA spent Tuesday evening engaged in mature conversation with her girlfriends at dinner, while Clint caught up with the boys at their late-night indoor soccer game. (to reference their qualify of those interactions, let’s just say they use Karate Kid t-shirts as their team uniform).
Discovery Pizza: We struck gold on Wednesday afternoon—it turns out the $8.99 special that we say on our coupon in the mail wasn’t just an ok idea: we fell in love with “Sicilian Pizza.” How much did we love it? Read on. .
Clint at War College, part II: On Thursday Clint went to class with KA at the Naval War College. You may be a Mormon if during your break from class, you find yourself applying models of terrorist organizations (discussed in class) to understand the tactics and organization of Lamanite armies in the Book of Mormon. Turns out Alma 43 becomes much more interesting. .
Friday night: After a day of shopping at Potomac Mills (an outlet mall about half an hour south of where we live), we took MJ to try this great pizza place we had found. Here’s a hint: they had an $8.99 special.
If I could turn back time: We felt like we could after our Saturday adventure. We were lucky enough to visit Intercourse, Pennsylvania (for a history of the name of the city, please click here). There we encountered expansive green fields, countless grain silos, and the Amish people. 
Mmm, mmm: Turns out cooking and baking are Amish specialties. We had the best Turkey sandwich. And then there were the cookies. And the fudge. And the pepper jam, jalepeno jam, and almond butter (think pb with a twist).
It deserves its own line: The ice cream was simply out of this world. Clint had to stop KA from inviting the young Amish girls working in the back to come home with us and teach her how to make it so good. KA had to stop Clint from trying to pay with a credit card: turns out the Amish are averse to high credit card fees.
And credit cards, for that matter. 
Easter Sunday dinner, take II: Sunday we were invited by MJ’s roommate to attend their Easter dinner feast. It just so happens that all of her friends are gourmet cooks, so the spread was divine. KA contributed funeral potatoes, which Alexia, the host, strongly complimented (and rightly so!).
THE REST OF THE WORLD
Storms, flooding, and fires: The South and Midwest continue to get hit by serious storms, while Texas tries to recover from the severe wildfires they’re experiencing.
It hit close to home: This week the weather service issued several advisories for the DC area, particularly regarding high tides. An area in Georgetown flooded when the Georgetown levy broke, causing significant damage. For what it’s worth, the lightning and thunder was pretty hefty Sunday night as well!
JUST FOR FUN
The feast hits the east! It’s true burrito lovers: Cafe Rio makes its East Coast debut this week. Not that we’re counting down, but if you would like to see an ‘interesting’ website, please click here and pay close attention to the lower right hand side. You can bet we are.
Orlando prep: To make the most of Universal Studios (including The Wizarding World of Harry Potter!) we’re doing some “background research.” Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone is our first study, with more to come, depending on how much we like it. Our vocabulary now includes muggles, Quidditch, and Voldemort. Bwha, ha ha.
Orlando visitor: We were thrilled to find out that Emo will be joining us in Orlando over President’s Day weekend! Something about the Disney got her all happy. . .
How’s that early morning stuff working out? As we disclosed a couple weeks ago, we’re working on “seizing the morning.” How are we doing?
You know you’re tired when. . . KA is startled from sleep by a 9:30am phone call from MJ, and only then realizes Clint is already gone. “Yikes” she thinks, “he’s probably already gone to the gym.”
You know you’re really tired when. . . KA instead finds Clint awkwardly sprawled face down on the couch fast asleep, his yet-to-be touched running shoes waiting in anticipation by the door.
Suffice it to say, we’ve got a little ways to go!
